Contra 4 - Nintendo DS

4 Different Characters, with bonus contents such as covers and screenshot infos etc. Nice.

Pumping music, super parallax scrolling and real weapons, not just some dodgy spray all over the place piece of rubbish in the original, and a grappling hook.

Nice use of two screens. Something that Apple iPhone users forget when they're talking about touch screen gameplay. This just makes the boss fight scenes look absolutely insane.

Talking about insane. Holy cr*p! I thought going through Gradius 3 was hard. This was insanely difficult.

iPhone vs DS vs PSP - It's Not That Silly, if you think about it.

There isn't a single department where the games on the iPhone actually trumps the PSP or DS.

There are no killer games and that is what the games market is usually about. Nintendo and it's Super Silly Marios', PSP and it's constant milking of sports/racing games.

But then, I'm thinking in 8 bit terms.

The gaming world is now about multiplayer and online. Come to think of it, the iPhone just needs a killer app and then it's going to be a major player.

Imagine a mini WoW, Eve and Oblivion online for the iPhone / Touch. It has the graphics, the touch screen, the iTunes place to download, and it has the capacity to store whatever is needed for a massive online game, such as updates and upgrades.

But then again, we're still waiting for Gran Turismo Portable for the PSP and a decent online RTS on the DS.

So, the iPhone and it's online multiplayer games is probably not going to happen.

River City Ransom - River City Rubbish!

Everything from the graphics to the sounds, to the story lines, to the potential martial art power up and special items bought in shops was absolutely lifeless, bland and mind-numbingly dull.

The free roaming feature was just a feature I dreaded in this game as I kept wondering if I was going to do any backtracking.

It felt like work trying to play this game and what ever compels someone to complete this game is beyond me. Maybe it's because I have become so used to current games where beat em ups felt like I was beating something up. This game has been overrated and underrated. To me, I don't know what the fuss is.

The Commodore 64 - The King of 8 Bit Computer Games.

There is no doubt that this was the ultimate 8 bit home computer. It had the best sound, the best graphics in terms of scrolling and sprite capability and the huge software collection made it the best selling home computer.

The home computer was so successful especially in Europe that Commodore kept putting back it's discontinuation date due its demand. Even today, there is still a large fan base with some Eastern Manufacturers making clones of the machine and recently Nintendo started to introduce some of it's games on their online download service.

Mr Driller - Nintendo DS

This was a great game on the Nintendo DS. You drill down colorful blocks until you reach the bottom and along the way you must replenish your air supply.

What was great about this game was the fact that the game uses both screens rather than using one just as a menu or background. However, the presentation is not very well designed as it uses a bland color scheme compared to the in game graphics.

I also like the fact that every time you complete a level you not only get to challenge the next level, you also get points so you can upgrade your character. Talking about characters, after you complete a number of levels you also get different characters, each with different powers and special features.

This game is great to play for 5 minutes or for 30 minutes and you rarely have to use your brain which in my book is a good thing if your just taking a break or wasting time.
